Half a dozen Pie people in Sydney

Pie Funds looks to extend strong Australasian equities performance with new Sydney hires.

Pie Funds has expanded its Sydney investment team to six people with the appointments of Portfolio Manager Shawn Lee and Investment Analyst Micah Barr.

Lee is the new Portfolio Manager of Pie Funds’ Australasian Emerging Companies Fund. He brings deep experience investing in high-growth, small-cap businesses and joins Pie Funds from SG Hiscock & Company (SGH), where he managed the SGH Australian Small Companies Fund. Prior to SGH he was an Investment Manager at Aberdeen Standard Investments.

Barr has also joined the Sydney team as an Investment Analyst. After graduating with a Bachelor of Business Analysis, majoring in Finance and Economics, from the University of Waikato, Micah held analyst roles at Craigs Investment Partners and at an insurtech start-up. He has passed the CFA Level 1 exam.

Since inception in April 2013 the Australasian Emerging Companies Fund has delivered an impressive annualised return of 18.4% per annum (as at 31 May 2025, after fees and before tax).

Pie Funds’ Founder and Chief Investment Officer Mike Taylor says the appointments reflect the firm’s long-standing belief in the growth potential of Australasian equities.

“The focus of our four Australasian equities funds, which are actively managed by our Sydney team, is to deliver long term capital growth for our clients.

Led by Michelle Lopez, our Head of Australasian Equities, the team has built an enviable track record, and we’re looking forward to seeing this continue with the appointments of Shawn and Micah.”
