[GRTV] Investment themes for this decade

AMP Capital managing director Bevan Graham talks about the topic of the momnet, corona virus, the big investment theme for this decade and the future of the business post the sale of AMP.

In this interview, recorded before Covid 19 escalated into a pandemic, Graham gives his views on what it all means. You will see he was on the money with his predictions.

AMP Captial had the view, going into 2020 that there would be some sort of market correction without picking Covid 19. Graham says when there are clear signs that the virus is being contained then there will be buying opportunities for fund managers and investors.

The company recently completed a roadshow looking at the investment themes for the new decade. Graham says if he had to pick one major one it would be climate change.

He says there is now a groundswell of increasing acceptance of the need to do something meaningful to combat the impacts of climate change.

Funds don't need to have an ESG label to prove they are addressing this issues. He says many funds like its new Global Companies fund have sustainability criteria built into its investment mandate.

He says the government's decision to ban KiwiSaver default funds investing into fossil fuels is entirely consistent with its zero carbon policy. He describes the move as "bold" and "positive".

AMP Capital is well-placed for the future, he says. The company have very good, long term relationships with institutional investors and also has good support from financial advisers.

There is demand  for high quality active investment propositions, like AMP Capital, he says.

"We are well positioned for the future."
