Heather Brilliant, former chief executive of Morningstar Australasia, has been appointed to the role.
It is the first time the institute, the global association of investment management professionals, has appointed women to its top two governance roles. Diane Nordin is taking the vice-chair role and Maria Wilton, a member of the CFA Society in Sydney who recently visited New Zealand, has joined the global board.
Brilliant is currently managing director for the Americas of First State Investments.
